The EUROPEAN COOPERATION FORUM has been formed

Events of recent decades show that the number of disasters is increasing year by year, their material effects are more and more significant, the number of effected population is increasing.


So it is not by chance that the UN and the European Union take care of the civil protection questions which is more and more deciseve in the field of prevention and management of disasters and besides the governmental organs the importance of the voluntary civil protection organisations is permanently increasing. This is the reason why in 2009 the Hungarian Civil Protection Association inciated the establishment of a organisation which enables the exchange of the lessons learned of the European voluntary civil protection organisations and their cooperation in an organised way. The Hungarian Civil Protection Association, the Austrian Civil Protection Association, the Croatian Crisis Management Association and the Council of the Civil Protection Association of the Bratislava Region decided to establish the European Cooperation Forum. The Swedish Civil Defence League joined to the initiative. We formed the idea through several organisational meetings, so at the end of April this year the European Cooperation Forum was formed in Budapest
 
Founding members are voluntary civil protection organisations from Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Prtugal, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Sweden and from the United Kingdom.
 
The Forum accepted the Statutues, the Final Declaration and elected a Coordination Council (CC). President of the CC is Ret. CP Colonel Dr. István EndrÅ‘di, President of the HCPA, the Secretary of the CC is Ret. CP Lieutenant Colonel György Leskó, its members are Mr. Walter Schwarzl, Secretary General of the Austrian Association, Dr. Zeljko Dobranovic, President of the Coatian Disaster Management Association, Mr. Jozef Polak, President of the Council of the Civil Protection Association of the Bratislava Region, Mrs. Moya Wood-Heath, British Civil Protection, EU representative of the British Red Cross and Anders M. Johansson, Secretary General of the Swedish Civil Defence League. The initiative was welcommed by Mr. Peter Zangl, Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Director General of the EU.
