The Slovak voluntarism is under review

We visited the Slovakian Representation of the European Commission on 24. January, in the organization of the European House. Vice-President József Schieber represented our Association. Mrs. Ingrid Ludvikova, Head of the Press and Information Department of the Slovakian Representation of the European Commission greeted our group, then Mr. Martin Pokorny, Head of information of the Slovak Youth Institute “IUVENTA” provided information of the implementation, results and experiences of the Slovak national plan of the European Year 2011 of Voluntarism.

In the next presentation we have got acquainted with a research topic. Mrs. Alzbeta Brozmanova Gregorova, non-profit researcher and university educator presented, by the help of statistical data, the composition of the participants by age, gender, place of residence and tasks undertaken. During the presentation and provision of pieces of information there was the possibility to ask and consult. About the Hungarian experiences Mr. Viktor Szabados, program coordinator of the European House informed those at present, emphasizing the possibilities and results of the involvement of the younger age-group (high school and university students). Later we heard about corporate voluntarism. The essence of this is that different companies participate in the work performed for the community, with a team-building character, they repair, paint, tidy up and help ill people, in which they involve also those helped. Mr. Pável Hrica, the program coordinator of the Pontis Foundation held the presentation.After lunch Mr. Pavol Demes, senior researcher of the The German Marshall Fund delivered a very interesting presentation under the title “Slovak common thinking of Europe”. He outlined the way of the Slovak Republic leading to the European Union, the hastening and regressing circumstances, pointing out at some human and political interesting things. He spoke about the situation caused by the present crisis, the responsibility of the countries of the European zone in order to avoid further crisis and the relation of the people related to this. The speaker was foreign minister at the change of the political system. The program ended with a short sight-seeing in the city.
